Sprinkle some magic with these load-shedding recipes

There is nothing better than a tried and tested recipe that will always hit the spot; however, in the Freddy Hirsch kitchen, we enjoy experimenting with new ideas to give South Africa the taste it deserves.

Such as our delicious Curried Venison and Sweet Pepper Kebab. Start by marinating the meats in a mixture of spices, oil and lemon juice before grilling them in our must-buy Quick Mix Sosatie marinade. You can marinate venison and sweet pepper skewers in a mixture of Freddy Hirsch's spice for at least 2 hours before grilling. Grill the skewers over medium-high heat for 8-10 minutes, occasionally turning, until the venison is cooked to your desired doneness.

And now, for a South African spin on Asian cuisine, enjoy the most delectable Asian Style Pork Rasher Kebabs. Mix Oom Freddy’s Legacy Sprinkle, Oom Freddy’s Legacy Marinade, and Sticky Soy & Ginger Sauce, and if you feel like taking the flavour up a notch, add a dash of honey and olive oil to make a marinade for pork rashers, and let them sit for 2 hours before braaing.

Another option is the Grilled Lamb Cutlets which involve sprinkling the spice directly on the meat before grilling. To prepare, sprinkle Freddy Hirsch's Oom Freddy’s Legacy Sprinkle and lather Oom Freddy’s Legacy Marinade over both sides of the lamb chops and grill over medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer your lamb more well-done. Serve the lamb cutlets with a side of peas, crumbled feta, and chopped mint for a delicious and balanced meal.

And finally, Hunters Chilli Biltong Ribs, which are a customer favourite, combine Freddy Hirsch's Hunter's Chilli spice, olive oil, lemon juice and brown sugar to make a marinade for biltong ribs. Marinate the biltong ribs in the mixture for at least 2 hours before grilling. Grill the biltong ribs over medium-high heat.
