Back in August 2008, Carte Blanche turned 20 years old. They celebrated by breaking from the norm of merely reporting on events and decided to get properly involved in fighting the issues that many South Africans face.

They formed the Making A Difference Trust — a non-profit initiative dedicated to helping as many vulnerable children as possible.

They focus on healthcare, especially for kids in critical conditions that urgently need medical attention. As such, they have taken the decision to help Children’s Surgery Units, ICUs and High Care Wards in selected Academic Hospitals across South Africa.

Three years ago, Freddy Hirsch got involved with the Making A Difference Trust. One of the hospitals Carte Blanche decided to focus on is the Tygerberg Children’s Hospital. We share their vision of a dedicated Newborn and Children’s Operating Theatre, because it would bring life and hope to so many young people. The positive impact that this would have on countless families is too great to measure.

Of course, this vision doesn’t come without a cost. The project will cost an estimated R16m. We have come together with other concerned companies and individuals to help make this dream a reality. We’re almost there, but not quite there yet.
