Celebrating Mr Freddy Hirsch's Legacy
It is with deep regret and sadness that we announce the passing of Mr Freddy Hirsch, our Group Founder and Chairman, on Monday, 27 May 2019 in his 91st year.
As a refugee arriving in South Africa in 1937 from tyranny in Europe, Mr Hirsch established the Freddy Hirsch Group in 1956, and together with various Management Teams built an industrial company focussed on the Meat Processing Sector. Over many decades the Organisation moved into allied areas of the Food Industry and grew a global footprint that remains “proudly South African!”
Mr Hirsch himself never sought the limelight, but always strove to be useful, honourable and compassionate. He made a lasting and positive impact on the lives of colleagues, customers (many of whom he counted as close friends) and the Industry at large. He avoided using friendships to grow his business, but instead used his business to grow friendships.
The choice of wording in the insertion placed by the Hirsch Family fully encapsulates Mr Hirsch’s approach to life:
“A one-of-a-kind man who embodied such integrity, generosity, grace, empathy and good cheer that in return those who crossed his path offered their enduring respect, loyalty and love. What an inspiring legacy for those who follow. Our hero, our mentor.
The family is the school of duties – founded on love. - Felix Adler"
The Hirsch Family wish to express their heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming expressions of sympathy.
